Integer Wraparound in Driftregion iso14229 File Transfer Handling

Vulnerability report for CVE-2026-111282, including description, CVSS score, EPSS score, affected products, exploitability, helpful resources, and attack-flow context.

Assigner: VulnCheck

Description

Driftregion iso14229 before 0.10.1 contains an integer wraparound in Handle_0x38_RequestFileTransfer that lets unauthenticated attackers bypass the file path length check. Attackers can send a short RequestFileTransfer (SID 0x38) request with filePathAndNameLength 0xFFFC-0xFFFF, causing callbacks to read past the receive buffer, crashing targets or disclosing memory.

Exploitability

CWE ID Description
CWE-190 The product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. This occurs when an integer value is incremented to a value that is too large to store in the associated representation. When this occurs, the value may become a very small or negative number.

Executive Summary

Driftregion iso14229 before 0.10.1 has an integer wraparound flaw in the Handle_0x38_RequestFileTransfer function. Unauthenticated attackers can exploit this by sending a RequestFileTransfer (SID 0x38) request with a filePathAndNameLength value between 0xFFFC and 0xFFFF. This causes the system to read past the receive buffer, leading to crashes or memory disclosure.

Detection Guidance

Detecting this vulnerability requires monitoring for malformed RequestFileTransfer (SID 0x38) requests with filePathAndNameLength values between 0xFFFC and 0xFFFF. Inspect network traffic for UDS ISO-TP packets targeting SID 0x38 with abnormal payload lengths. Use tools like Wireshark with UDS dissector or custom scripts to analyze CAN FD or Ethernet frames for these patterns.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability allows unauthenticated attackers to crash systems or access sensitive memory. It could disrupt operations, cause denial-of-service conditions, or expose confidential data in systems using Driftregion iso14229 versions before 0.10.1.

Mitigation Strategies

Update Driftregion iso14229 to version 0.10.1 or later to address the integer wraparound issue. If immediate updates are not possible, implement network-level filtering to block malformed UDS requests with SID 0x38 and filePathAndNameLength in the 0xFFFC-0xFFFF range. Disable unnecessary UDS services if file transfer is not required.
