Executive Summary

OxiCloud versions 0.9.1 through 0.9.3 have an authorization flaw where anonymous users with a valid oxi_shares share-ring cookie can bypass password protection on shared files or folders. Even after password protection is enabled, attackers can access content via the GET /api/files/{id} endpoint using the existing cookie.

Detection Guidance

Check for unauthorized access to /api/files/{id} endpoints by monitoring HTTP GET requests to these paths. Look for requests originating from systems with existing oxi_shares share-ring cookies. Verify if password-protected shares are still accessible without proper authentication.

Impact Analysis

If you use OxiCloud 0.9.1-0.9.3 for sharing files or folders, unauthorized individuals with a share-ring cookie could access sensitive data. This includes confidential documents, personal files, or other restricted content meant only for authorized users.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized data exposure, violating confidentiality requirements in GDPR and HIPAA. Organizations may face compliance violations, legal penalties, and reputational damage due to potential data breaches.

Mitigation Strategies

Remove all oxi_shares share-ring cookies from user sessions. Update OxiCloud to a patched version if available. Implement stricter access controls to prevent anonymous access to file endpoints. Review and revoke any unauthorized share access permissions.
