Executive Summary

The vulnerability in go-ldap-admin through version 0.6.2 involves a hard-coded RSA private key embedded in the software. This key was published in a public repository and is used to protect encrypted login passwords. Attackers can exploit this by capturing encrypted passwords and decrypting them offline or through a specific endpoint, exposing cleartext LDAP credentials.

Impact Analysis

Unauthenticated attackers could decrypt captured encrypted passwords to obtain LDAP credentials. This allows unauthorized access to systems using these credentials, potentially leading to data breaches, privilege escalation, or further network compromise.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data, violating confidentiality requirements under GDPR and HIPAA. Organizations may face compliance violations, legal penalties, and reputational damage due to potential data exposure.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately upgrade go-ldap-admin to a version that does not embed the hard-coded RSA private key. Review any captured encrypted passwords and rotate all LDAP credentials to prevent unauthorized access.
