Description

Frappe Framework before 15.120.0 and 16.x before 16.33.0 does not enforce the per-user restrict_ip allowlist for non-session authentication methods, including API key, OAuth, and header-based authentication. Attackers holding valid credentials of these types can authenticate from IP addresses outside the allowlist, defeating the configured network-based access restrictions.

Executive Summary

CVE-2026-111388 is an improper access control vulnerability in the Frappe Framework. It allows attackers with valid credentials like API keys, OAuth tokens, or header-based authentication to bypass IP address restrictions configured in the restrict_ip allowlist. This happens because the framework fails to enforce these restrictions for non-session authentication methods.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, check Frappe Framework versions before 15.120.0 or 16.x before 16.33.0. Verify if API key, OAuth, or header-based authentication methods bypass the restrict_ip allowlist. Review authentication logs for unauthorized access attempts from unexpected IP addresses.

Impact Analysis

If you use Frappe Framework versions before 15.120.0 or 16.x before 16.33.0, attackers could gain unauthorized access to your system even if they are outside your allowed IP ranges. This could lead to data breaches, unauthorized actions, or further exploitation of your systems.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data, violating compliance requirements for GDPR and HIPAA. It undermines network-based access controls designed to protect personal or health information, potentially resulting in regulatory penalties or data exposure.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update Frappe Framework to versions 15.120.0 or later and 16.33.0 or later. There are no known workarounds, so patching is required to resolve the issue.
