Description

The Hippoo Mobile App for WooCommerce plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Reflected Cross-Site Scripting via the 'token_id' parameter in all versions up to, and including, 1.12.0 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that execute if they can successfully trick a user into performing an action such as clicking on a link. The URL path regex constrains the path segment to word characters, but WP_REST_Request's query-string parameter precedence allows a ?token_id= value to override it and reach the handler verbatim, bypassing the regex constraint entirely.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a Reflected Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) issue in the Hippoo Mobile App for WooCommerce WordPress plugin. It exists due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping in the 'token_id' parameter. Attackers can inject malicious scripts into web pages, which execute when a user clicks a crafted link. The vulnerability bypasses path constraints via query-string parameter precedence.

Detection Guidance

Check WordPress installations for the Hippoo Mobile App for WooCommerce plugin versions up to 1.12.0. Inspect web server logs for unusual requests containing 'token_id' parameter with script-like payloads. Use tools like WPScan to scan for vulnerable plugins.

Impact Analysis

Unauthenticated attackers could trick users into clicking malicious links, leading to arbitrary script execution in their browsers. This may result in session hijacking, data theft, or defacement of affected websites. Users with admin privileges could have their accounts compromised.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to user data, violating GDPR's data protection requirements and HIPAA's safeguards for protected health information. Organizations may face compliance penalties if exploited.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the Hippoo Mobile App for WooCommerce plugin to the latest version. If no update is available, consider disabling the plugin temporarily. Implement input validation and output escaping for the 'token_id' parameter in web applications.
