Executive Summary

NexoPOS through 6.2.4 has a missing authentication vulnerability. Unauthenticated attackers can read accounting transaction records by sending GET requests to /api/fields/{resource}/{identifier}. They can access transaction field classes like ns.entity-transaction using sequential IDs to retrieve sensitive details such as names, values, account IDs, and descriptions without needing the nexopos.read.transactions permission.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, monitor HTTP GET requests targeting paths like /api/fields/{resource}/{identifier} with parameters such as resource set to ns.entity-transaction and sequential identifiers. Check server logs for unauthorized access attempts to accounting transaction records.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability allows attackers to access sensitive accounting data without authorization. Attackers could steal financial records, transaction details, or other confidential information, leading to data breaches, financial loss, or reputational damage for affected organizations using NexoPOS.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability likely violates compliance requirements such as GDPR and HIPAA, which mandate strict access controls and protection of sensitive data. Unauthorized access to financial or personal data could result in legal penalties, fines, or mandatory breach notifications.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update NexoPOS to the latest version beyond 6.2.4. Implement strict access controls to restrict API endpoints to authenticated users only. Review server logs for signs of exploitation and block suspicious IP addresses attempting to access /api/fields endpoints.
