Executive Summary

Chaskiq through version 2.0.3 has a server-side request forgery (SSRF) vulnerability. Unauthenticated attackers can exploit the createUrlUpload GraphQL mutation to fetch arbitrary URLs by submitting internal URLs, including cloud metadata endpoints. The response is retrieved via an ActiveStorage blob URL.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, monitor for unusual GraphQL requests to POST /graphql with createUrlUpload mutations. Check for internal or metadata endpoint URLs being submitted. Inspect ActiveStorage blob URLs for unexpected external access or data exfiltration attempts.

Impact Analysis

Attackers could access internal systems, exfiltrate sensitive data, or interact with cloud provider metadata services. This may lead to unauthorized information disclosure, internal network mapping, or further attacks on backend services.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could violate GDPR by exposing personal data or HIPAA by leaking protected health information. It undermines data confidentiality requirements and may lead to regulatory penalties due to unauthorized data access.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update Chaskiq to the latest version beyond 2.0.3. Restrict access to the GraphQL endpoint via network policies or firewalls. Disable the createUrlUpload mutation if not required. Monitor for suspicious outbound requests from the server.
