Description

ZR.Admin.NET through 3.8.2 contains an sql injection vulnerability that allows authenticated attackers to manipulate the ORDER BY clause by supplying a crafted PagerInfo.Sort query parameter to the shared ToPage paging helper. Attackers holding the system:user:list permission can inject subquery or CASE expressions via GET /system/user/list to extract database contents such as stored credentials through blind techniques.

CWE ID Description
CWE-89 The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Without sufficient removal or quoting of SQL syntax in user-controllable inputs, the generated SQL query can cause those inputs to be interpreted as SQL instead of ordinary user data.

Executive Summary

ZR.Admin.NET through version 3.8.2 has an SQL injection flaw. Authenticated attackers with the system:user:list permission can exploit a crafted PagerInfo.Sort query parameter in the GET /system/user/list endpoint. This allows them to manipulate the ORDER BY clause and inject subqueries or CASE expressions to extract sensitive data like stored credentials through blind SQL techniques.

Detection Guidance

To detect this SQL injection vulnerability in ZR.Admin.NET, monitor HTTP requests to the endpoint /system/user/list for the PagerInfo.Sort parameter. Look for crafted inputs containing SQL keywords like ORDER BY, CASE, or subqueries. Use tools like Burp Suite or OWASP ZAP to intercept and analyze requests for suspicious SQL syntax.

Impact Analysis

If you use ZR.Admin.NET 3.8.2 or earlier, attackers could steal sensitive data such as user credentials or other confidential information stored in the database. This could lead to unauthorized access, data breaches, or further compromise of your system.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized data access, violating GDPR's data protection principles and HIPAA's security requirements. Organizations may face legal penalties, reputational damage, and loss of trust due to non-compliance with these regulations.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update ZR.Admin.NET to version 3.8.3 or later, which patches the SQL injection flaw. If an update is unavailable, restrict access to the /system/user/list endpoint to trusted users only and implement input validation for the PagerInfo.Sort parameter to block SQL keywords.
