Executive Summary

Cube-studio through 2026.09.01 has an insecure direct object reference flaw. Authenticated users can manipulate lifecycle endpoints in view_notebook.py, view_inferenceserving.py, and view_serving.py to stop, reset, clear, or redeploy other users' notebooks and services by passing sequential IDs. This allows attackers to delete pods and disrupt production inference endpoints.

Detection Guidance

Check Cube-studio logs for unauthorized access to lifecycle endpoints like view_notebook.py, view_inferenceserving.py, or view_serving.py. Monitor for sequential ID requests targeting other users' notebooks or services.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability could allow unauthorized users to disrupt or take offline critical services and notebooks belonging to other users. This may lead to service outages, data loss, or unauthorized access to sensitive resources, depending on the affected system's role in your environment.

Mitigation Strategies

Restrict access to lifecycle endpoints by implementing proper authentication and authorization checks. Update Cube-studio to the latest version if a patch is available. Monitor for suspicious activity and block unauthorized access attempts.
