Executive Summary

Exrick XBoot through 3.3.4 has an authorization bypass flaw. Authenticated users can evade role-based data-scope restrictions by sending the parameter openDataFilter=false. This allows them to access department data outside their assigned scope by querying endpoints like getByParentId or search.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, monitor HTTP requests to department endpoints for the parameter 'openDataFilter=false'. Check logs for unauthorized access to department data outside assigned scopes. No specific commands are provided in the context.

Impact Analysis

Attackers with valid credentials could retrieve sensitive organizational data, including department structures and names, beyond their authorized access. This could lead to unauthorized data exposure or further exploitation of internal systems.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability may violate data protection regulations like GDPR or HIPAA by enabling unauthorized access to sensitive information. Organizations could face compliance violations, legal penalties, or reputational damage due to insufficient access controls.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update Exrick XBoot to a version beyond 3.3.4. Implement input validation to block the 'openDataFilter=false' parameter. Restrict access to department endpoints based on user roles and enforce strict data-scope checks.
