Executive Summary

Exrick XBoot through 3.3.4 has an authorization bypass flaw allowing authenticated users to read user records from any department by ignoring role-based data scope restrictions. Attackers can exploit this by sending GET requests to /xboot/user/getByDepartmentId/{departmentId} with arbitrary department IDs to retrieve sensitive user details such as usernames, real names, mobile numbers, emails, and account status.

Detection Guidance

Check for unauthorized GET requests to /xboot/user/getByDepartmentId/{departmentId} endpoints with arbitrary department IDs. Monitor logs for unusual access patterns or data exfiltration attempts targeting user records.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability allows unauthorized access to sensitive user data across departments, potentially exposing personal information like emails and phone numbers. Attackers with valid credentials could harvest data for identity theft, phishing, or further attacks. Organizations using XBoot risk data breaches and compliance violations due to unauthorized data exposure.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability likely violates GDPR by enabling unauthorized access to personal data and HIPAA by exposing protected health information if user records include such data. Organizations may face fines, legal penalties, and reputational damage for failing to protect sensitive user information under these regulations.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply patches or updates to Exrick XBoot version 3.3.4 or later. Restrict access to sensitive endpoints by implementing proper role-based access controls and input validation to prevent unauthorized department ID queries.
