Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a path traversal issue in Tektronix 3 Series MDO devices running firmware before version 1.21.1. It allows remote attackers to read or modify arbitrary files on the device by exploiting insufficient validation of file paths in the SCPI FILESystem command interface.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, check the firmware version of Tektronix 3 Series MDO devices. If the version is below 1.21.1, the device is vulnerable. Use the device's web interface or SCPI commands to verify the firmware version.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to access sensitive data stored on the device, alter system configurations, or install malicious files. This could lead to data breaches, device malfunction, or unauthorized control of the device.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to non-compliance with GDPR or HIPAA if sensitive data is exposed or altered. Organizations may face legal penalties, loss of trust, and reputational damage due to unauthorized access to protected information.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the Tektronix 3 Series MDO device firmware to version 1.21.1 or later. Restrict network access to the device's SCPI interface to trusted sources only. Monitor for unauthorized file access attempts or modifications.
