Executive Summary

Vikunja 0.22.0 before 2.7.0 has an improper access revocation flaw where removed collaborators continue receiving project data via webhooks they created. Even after access is revoked, they still get task titles and descriptions, including new content added post-removal.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, check Vikunja installations for versions between 0.22.0 and 2.6.9. Review webhook configurations for projects where collaborators were removed but still receive updates. Look for active webhooks linked to deactivated user accounts or projects.

Impact Analysis

If you use Vikunja and remove collaborators, they may still access sensitive project data through their webhooks. This could lead to unauthorized data exposure, confidentiality breaches, and potential misuse of project information.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could violate data protection regulations like GDPR and HIPAA by allowing unauthorized access to sensitive data. Organizations may face compliance failures, legal penalties, and reputational damage due to improper data handling.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade Vikunja to version 2.7.0 or later to address the improper access revocation issue. Review and remove any existing webhooks created by former collaborators to prevent continued data transmission.
