Description

Coder from 2.0.0 before 2.34.8 contains an incorrect authorization vulnerability in the acl_allow rule of coderd/rbac/policy.rego, which does not verify organization membership for per-user ACL entries, and organization member removal does not scrub those entries. Authenticated users removed from an organization can keep accessing previously granted org-scoped resources such as templates and workspaces via the API.

Executive Summary

CVE-2026-111928 is an authorization bypass flaw in Coder versions 2.0.0 to 2.34.7. The vulnerability occurs because the RBAC policy fails to verify organization membership for per-user ACL entries. When a user is removed from an organization, their access to previously granted org-scoped resources like templates and workspaces is not revoked, allowing continued API access.

Detection Guidance

Check Coder logs for unauthorized access attempts to org-scoped resources by users no longer in the organization. Review API access logs for users who were removed from organizations but still interact with templates or workspaces.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability allows authenticated users who were previously granted access to organization-scoped resources to retain that access even after being removed from the organization. This could lead to unauthorized use of resources like templates and workspaces, potentially causing data exposure or misuse of organizational assets.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability may impact compliance by allowing unauthorized access to sensitive resources, which could violate data protection requirements under GDPR or HIPAA. Organizations using Coder must ensure proper access revocation to maintain compliance with these regulations.

Mitigation Strategies

Update Coder to version 2.34.8 or later. Manually revoke user-level ACL entries for org-scoped resources before removing users from organizations. Audit existing ACLs to identify and remove stale user-level permissions.
