Description

Coder from 2.30.0 before 2.34.8 contains an authorization bypass vulnerability in the provisioner daemon DownloadFile gRPC handler that allows authenticated provisioner daemons to download other organizations' cached Terraform module archives. Attackers with an org-scoped provisioner key and a known file UUID can retrieve module source code exposing infrastructure topology or embedded secrets.

Executive Summary

CVE-2026-111929 is an authorization bypass flaw in Coder versions 2.30.0 to 2.34.7. It allows authenticated provisioner daemons to download Terraform module archives from other organizations by exploiting a vulnerable DownloadFile gRPC handler in the provisioner daemon. Attackers need an org-scoped provisioner key and a known file UUID to exploit this.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, check the version of Coder running on your system. Run: coder version. If the version is between 2.30.0 and 2.34.7, the system is vulnerable. Additionally, review logs for unauthorized file downloads via the DownloadFile gRPC handler in the provisioner daemon.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability can expose sensitive infrastructure details or embedded secrets in Terraform module archives. Attackers may gain unauthorized access to other organizations' cached module sources, potentially leading to data leaks or further attacks on exposed secrets.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized data exposure, violating compliance requirements for data protection such as GDPR or HIPAA. Organizations may face legal penalties, reputational damage, and loss of trust due to potential breaches of sensitive infrastructure or user data.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade Coder to version 2.34.8 or later immediately. If using external provisioner daemons or multi-organization deployments, ensure no unpatched versions are running. Restrict access to provisioner keys and audit file UUID exposure.
