Executive Summary

This is a Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF) vulnerability in MeTube affecting versions up to 2026.09.28. It allows unauthenticated attackers to exploit the feed-metadata writer to fetch and read internal service responses, including sensitive data like cloud metadata or loopback admin panel content. The attack involves submitting a crafted playlist page with a thumbnail URL pointing to an internal address.

Detection Guidance

To detect this SSRF vulnerability in MeTube, monitor network traffic for unexpected outbound connections from the MeTube process, particularly to internal IP ranges like 169.254.169.254 or 127.0.0.1. Check logs for thumbnail downloads from untrusted sources or unusual file writes in download directories.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could access sensitive internal data, such as cloud metadata or admin panel content, by tricking the application into fetching it via a malicious thumbnail URL. This could lead to unauthorized information disclosure or further exploitation of internal services.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data, which may violate GDPR (data protection) or HIPAA (health information privacy) requirements. Organizations using affected MeTube versions risk non-compliance due to potential data breaches.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately upgrade MeTube to version 2026.09.29 or later. If upgrading is not possible, restrict network access to the MeTube container or disable thumbnail fetching for playlists/channels until patched.
