Description

The Cache Enabler WordPress plugin before 1.8.17 does not validate a URL before using it to build a filesystem path in its cache purge routine, and does not confine the resulting deletion to the cache directory, allowing unauthenticated users to delete arbitrary files and directories on sites where another installed Cache Enabler WordPress plugin before 1.8.17 or passes a request-derived URL to its public cache-clearing hook.

Executive Summary

CVE-2026-19253 is an unauthenticated arbitrary file and directory deletion vulnerability in the Cache Enabler WordPress plugin versions before 1.8.17. The plugin fails to validate URLs before using them to build filesystem paths during cache purging, allowing attackers to delete arbitrary files and directories on the server by exploiting a public cache-clearing hook.

Detection Guidance

Check the installed version of the Cache Enabler plugin in WordPress. If it is below 1.8.17, the system is vulnerable. Use commands like 'wp plugin list' in WordPress CLI or inspect the plugin files in the /wp-content/plugins/cache-enabler/ directory.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability allows unauthenticated attackers to delete critical files and directories on your server, potentially causing data loss, website downtime, or system instability. Attackers could target configuration files, databases, or other sensitive system components.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to non-compliance with GDPR or HIPAA by enabling unauthorized data deletion or system disruption. Loss of personal or health data due to file deletion may violate regulatory requirements for data integrity and availability.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the Cache Enabler plugin to version 1.8.17 or later immediately. If updating is not possible, disable the plugin temporarily until the update can be applied. Review server logs for suspicious cache purge requests.
