Description

A predictable seed in the pseudo-random number generator (PRNG) in the IFTTT pairing token generation of the ASUS RT-BE57 router allows an unauthenticated nearby user to derive the pairing token and read or modify router settings via observed values from an administrator-initiated IFTTT pairing session.Refer to the ' Security Update for ASUS Router Firmware  ' section on the ASUS Security Advisory for more information.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability involves a predictable seed in the pseudo-random number generator (PRNG) used for generating IFTTT pairing tokens in the ASUS RT-BE57 router. An unauthenticated nearby attacker can exploit this to derive the pairing token and gain access to read or modify router settings during an administrator-initiated IFTTT pairing session.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability involves a predictable seed in the PRNG for IFTTT pairing tokens on ASUS RT-BE57 routers. Detection requires monitoring network traffic for IFTTT pairing sessions and analyzing token generation patterns. No specific commands are provided in the context to detect this issue.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to gain unauthorized access to your router settings, potentially changing configurations, intercepting network traffic, or compromising connected devices without needing authentication.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could potentially impact compliance with standards like GDPR and HIPAA by allowing unauthorized access to router settings. Unauthenticated nearby users could derive pairing tokens and modify settings, which may lead to unauthorized data access or breaches of confidentiality.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the ASUS RT-BE57 router firmware to the latest version provided by ASUS to address the predictable PRNG seed issue in IFTTT pairing tokens.
