CWE ID Description
CWE-416 The product reuses or references memory after it has been freed. At some point afterward, the memory may be allocated again and saved in another pointer, while the original pointer references a location somewhere within the new allocation. Any operations using the original pointer are no longer valid because the memory "belongs" to the code that operates on the new pointer.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a memory corruption issue in aidl (Android Interface Definition Language) caused by a use-after-free condition. This means a program tries to access memory that has already been freed, potentially leading to crashes or unintended behavior. The issue allows local privilege escalation if an attacker already has System-level access.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability could allow an attacker with existing System privileges to further escalate their access, potentially gaining control over the device or executing arbitrary code. However, user interaction is not required for exploitation, and the attacker must already have high-level access.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply the patch provided by MediaTek with Patch ID ALPS11242428 to address the use-after-free issue in aidl. Ensure the patch is applied to all affected systems to prevent local privilege escalation.
