Executive Summary

This vulnerability allows an attacker to cause a network switch to reboot repeatedly by navigating to a specific URL on its web server. This can be automated, such as with a tool like curl, leading to a denial-of-service condition where the switch is constantly rebooting and unable to function normally.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, monitor network traffic for repeated requests to the switch's web server causing reboots. Use curl commands like 'curl -v http://<switch-ip>/path' to test if the URL triggers a reboot. Check switch logs for unexpected reboot events.

Impact Analysis

The impact includes disruption of network services due to constant switch reboots, leading to downtime for connected devices and potential loss of connectivity. It may also allow attackers to manipulate network traffic or gain unauthorized access during reboots.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately restrict access to the switch's web interface by disabling HTTP/HTTPS access or limiting it to trusted IPs. Apply patches or firmware updates from the vendor if available. Monitor network traffic for suspicious activity targeting the switch.
