Executive Summary

This is a Stored Cross-site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability in OTRS. An administrator can inject malicious JavaScript into a Custom Page, which is then stored and executed in the browsers of users who access that page.

Detection Guidance

Check OTRS Custom Pages for suspicious JavaScript content. Review browser console logs for unexpected script execution when accessing custom pages. Inspect network traffic for unauthorized data exfiltration attempts.

Impact Analysis

Attackers could steal user session cookies, redirect users to malicious sites, or perform actions on behalf of users. Users accessing the compromised Custom Page may have their data exposed or their sessions hijacked.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized data access or modification, violating GDPR's data protection principles or HIPAA's security requirements for protected health information. Organizations may face compliance penalties if user data is compromised.

Mitigation Strategies

Update OTRS to version 2026.7.1 or later immediately. If using OTRS 7, migrate to a supported version as no further patches will be released. Restrict administrator access to trusted personnel only.
