Executive Summary

This vulnerability allows a user with read access to guess stored credentials like IPMI or PSK by using a search function that filters by hidden fields. The search results reveal whether the guess was correct, enabling unauthorized discovery of sensitive credentials.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability allows unauthorized access to IPMI and PSK credentials through search functionality. To detect it, monitor for unusual search queries targeting credential fields in Zabbix frontend logs. Check for repeated failed login attempts or unexpected credential exposure in search results.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to uncover stored credentials, potentially gaining unauthorized access to systems or data. This could lead to data breaches, system compromise, or further lateral movement within a network.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data, violating confidentiality requirements in GDPR and HIPAA. Organizations may face compliance violations, fines, or reputational damage due to data exposure.

Mitigation Strategies

Update Zabbix to the latest patched version immediately to address the credential exposure in host search functionality.
