Description

The Frontend Admin by DynamiApps plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via kses bypass / mutation XSS in all versions up to, and including, 3.28.36. This is due to the 'get_dynamic_values' function performing text-level find-and-replace operations on post content without HTML-aware parsing. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with Contributor-level access and above, to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) flaw in the Frontend Admin by DynamiApps WordPress plugin. It allows attackers with Contributor-level access or higher to inject malicious scripts into web pages by exploiting improper text-level find-and-replace operations on post content without proper HTML parsing.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability requires checking WordPress sites using the Frontend Admin by DynamiApps plugin versions up to 3.28.36. Inspect plugin versions via WordPress admin panel or database. Look for unauthorized script injections in post content, especially in pages edited by Contributor-level users or above.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could inject scripts that execute when users visit affected pages, potentially stealing user sessions, redirecting to malicious sites, or defacing the website. Users with Contributor-level access or above could exploit this to compromise site visitors.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized data access or modification, violating GDPR (data protection) and HIPAA (health data privacy) by exposing sensitive user information. Compliance may be compromised if user data is compromised through such attacks.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the Frontend Admin by DynamiApps plugin to the latest version if available. If no update exists, disable or remove the plugin immediately. Review all user roles with Contributor access or higher for suspicious activity. Consider using a web application firewall to block XSS attempts.
