Executive Summary

NVIDIA AIStore for Linux has a vulnerability in its experimental HT backend. An unauthenticated remote attacker can exploit this by sending a crafted original URL to perform server-side request forgery. This may result in information disclosure.

Detection Guidance

Detection of this vulnerability requires monitoring network traffic for unusual server-side requests originating from untrusted sources. Check AIStore logs for unexpected URL handling or outbound requests to external systems. Use network scanners to inspect traffic patterns involving the HT backend.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to access sensitive information on the server without authentication. This may lead to data breaches or unauthorized data exposure.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized data access, violating GDPR and HIPAA requirements for data protection and confidentiality. Non-compliance may result in legal penalties and reputational damage.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply the latest security patches from NVIDIA for AIStore. Disable the experimental HT backend if not required. Monitor network traffic for unusual requests targeting the HT backend. Restrict access to the AIStore service using firewalls or network segmentation.
