Authorization Bypass in Apache DolphinScheduler Task Definitions

Vulnerability report for CVE-2026-66084, including description, CVSS score, EPSS score, affected products, exploitability, helpful resources, and attack-flow context.

Publication date: 2026-10-08

Last updated on: 2026-10-08

Assigner: Apache Software Foundation

Description

An authorization bypass vulnerability in Apache DolphinScheduler allows authenticated users to modify task definitions in projects they are not authorized to access through the /dolphinscheduler/projects/{projectCode}/task-definition/{code}/with-upstream endpoint. The endpoint fails to verify that the task definition identified by code belongs to the project specified by projectCode. An authenticated user can supply the code of a project they are authorized to access together with a task definition code from another project, bypassing project access restrictions and modifying the target task definition and its upstream dependencies. This vulnerability can compromise workflow integrity and disrupt task execution in unauthorized projects. This issue affects Apache DolphinScheduler: before 3.4.3. Users are recommended to upgrade to version 3.4.3, which fixes the issue.

Executive Summary

This is an authorization bypass vulnerability in Apache DolphinScheduler. It allows authenticated users to modify task definitions in projects they are not authorized to access by exploiting an endpoint that fails to verify project ownership of task definitions.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, check Apache DolphinScheduler versions before 3.4.3. Inspect logs for unauthorized modifications to task definitions via the /dolphinscheduler/projects/{projectCode}/task-definition/{code}/with-upstream endpoint. Look for requests where projectCode and task definition code do not match.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could disrupt workflows, alter task execution in unauthorized projects, and compromise the integrity of scheduled tasks. This could lead to unauthorized changes, data corruption, or service disruptions in affected projects.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access and modification of sensitive data, potentially violating compliance requirements for data integrity and access controls in standards like GDPR and HIPAA.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade Apache DolphinScheduler to version 3.4.3 or later immediately. Ensure all users have appropriate project access permissions and review logs for suspicious activity related to task definition modifications.
