Authorization Bypass Exposes Kubernetes Config in Apache DolphinScheduler

Vulnerability report for CVE-2026-71895, including description, CVSS score, EPSS score, affected products, exploitability, helpful resources, and attack-flow context.

Publication date: 2026-10-08

Last updated on: 2026-10-08

Assigner: Apache Software Foundation

Description

An authorization vulnerability in Apache DolphinScheduler allows authenticated non-admin users to retrieve Kubernetes configuration data intended for administrator-managed cluster configuration. The exposed kubeconfig data contains credentials that may allow users to authenticate directly to the Kubernetes API outside DolphinScheduler. The impact depends on the permissions granted to the disclosed credentials. If the kubeconfig provides cluster-admin or broadly privileged service-account access, an attacker may read Kubernetes Secrets, create pods, and establish persistent access to the cluster. This issue affects Apache DolphinScheduler: from 3.2.0 before 3.4.3. Users are recommended to upgrade to version 3.4.3, which fixes the issue.

Executive Summary

This is an authorization vulnerability in Apache DolphinScheduler where authenticated non-admin users can access Kubernetes configuration data meant for admin-managed clusters. The exposed kubeconfig files contain credentials that could allow unauthorized access to the Kubernetes API.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, check Apache DolphinScheduler versions between 3.2.0 and 3.4.2. Verify if non-admin users can access Kubernetes configuration data. Inspect logs for unauthorized kubeconfig retrieval attempts. Use commands like 'curl' to query DolphinScheduler APIs for exposed configurations.

Impact Analysis

If the exposed credentials have high privileges, attackers could read sensitive Kubernetes Secrets, create pods, or maintain persistent access to the cluster. The impact depends on the permissions granted to the credentials.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to Kubernetes Secrets, which may contain sensitive data such as personal or health information. If such data is exposed, it could violate GDPR (if personal data is involved) or HIPAA (if protected health information is compromised), depending on the nature of the exposed data and the organization's compliance obligations.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade Apache DolphinScheduler to version 3.4.3 or later to fix the authorization vulnerability.
