Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a command injection flaw in the backup function of Teltonika Networks devices running RUTOS or TSWOS. A remote authenticated attacker can exploit it to execute arbitrary operating system commands on affected devices.

Detection Guidance

Detecting this vulnerability requires checking the firmware version of affected Teltonika devices. Use the device's web interface or SSH to run commands like 'cat /etc/version' or 'rutos-version' to verify if the version is below 7.24.6 (RUTOS 7.22/7.25), 7.25.2 (TAP devices), or 1.10.4 (TSWOS). Network scanning tools like Nmap may identify vulnerable devices by checking open ports and services.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could gain control over the device, steal sensitive data, disrupt network operations, or use the device as a pivot point to attack other systems in the network.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to personal or sensitive data, potentially violating GDPR or HIPAA compliance requirements for data protection and security.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update affected devices to the latest firmware versions: RUTOS 7.24.6 or later, RUTOS 7.25.2 or later for TAP devices, and TSWOS 1.10.4 or later. Disable remote authenticated access if not required and restrict network access to the device's management interface. Monitor logs for suspicious activity.
