Description

In Progress® Telerik® Fiddler® Classic for Windows, versions prior to v6.0.20262.10021, HTTP request smuggling is possible in the proxy request forwarding component. Requests containing multiple Content-Length headers with conflicting values are forwarded verbatim to the origin server, while Fiddler frames the request body using only the first Content-Length value. A local threat actor with low privileges who is able to send requests through the same Fiddler proxy instance as another user can exploit this desynchronization against a non-RFC-9110-compliant origin server that keeps the connection alive to smuggle an additional request. Because Fiddler returns the server connection to its pipe pool after reading only the first response, the unread smuggled response remains buffered on the socket and is served to the next session that reuses that connection, allowing the attacker to poison responses delivered to other users and to obtain responses intended for them.

CWE ID Description
CWE-444 The product acts as an intermediary HTTP agent (such as a proxy or firewall) in the data flow between two entities such as a client and server, but it does not interpret malformed HTTP requests or responses in ways that are consistent with how the messages will be processed by those entities that are at the ultimate destination.

Executive Summary

CVE-2026-77802 is an HTTP request smuggling vulnerability in Progress Telerik Fiddler Classic for Windows versions before v6.0.20262.10021. It occurs when requests with conflicting Content-Length headers are forwarded to origin servers. Fiddler uses only the first Content-Length value to frame the request body, while sending the full request with multiple headers. This desynchronization allows a local attacker with low privileges to smuggle additional requests to non-RFC-9110-compliant servers.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, monitor HTTP traffic for requests containing multiple conflicting Content-Length headers. Use tools like Wireshark or tcpdump to capture and analyze proxy traffic for desynchronized requests. Check Fiddler logs for unusual response handling or connection reuse patterns.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to poison responses delivered to other users by reusing a connection. This may lead to session hijacking, unauthorized data access, or delivery of malicious content to users sharing the same Fiddler proxy instance.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data, violating confidentiality requirements under GDPR and HIPAA. Organizations using affected Fiddler versions may face compliance breaches if user data is exposed due to response poisoning.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update Fiddler Classic to version v6.0.20262.10021 or later. Disable the proxy for untrusted users until patched. Configure firewalls to block suspicious requests with multiple Content-Length headers. Review and restrict access to the Fiddler proxy instance.
