Executive Summary

GitLab had a security flaw in versions 19.1 before 19.2.8, 19.3 before 19.3.5, and 19.4 before 19.4.2. An authenticated user with a project-scoped fine-grained Personal Access Token could modify integrations outside the token's scope due to incorrect authorization checks.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability involves incorrect authorization checks for project-scoped fine-grained Personal Access Tokens in GitLab. To detect it, check GitLab instance versions and review access logs for unauthorized modification of group integrations. Ensure all instances are updated to versions 19.2.8, 19.3.5, or 19.4.2 or later.

Impact Analysis

An attacker with a project-scoped token could alter integrations for groups they should not have access to, potentially leading to unauthorized changes in project settings or workflows.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access or modifications, potentially violating data protection requirements under GDPR or HIPAA by allowing unintended changes to integrations handling sensitive data.

Mitigation Strategies

Update GitLab to version 19.2.8, 19.3.5, or 19.4.2 or later to address the authorization flaw. Review and revoke any project-scoped fine-grained Personal Access Tokens that may have been misused.
