Description
Description
Gitea's web attachment handler skips its cross-repository ownership check for attachments created before 16 January 2026 and checks permissions against the repository named in the request URL instead. An unauthenticated attacker who knows a private attachment's UUID can request it through a public repository's attachment path and retrieve its contents. This can expose issue and pull request attachments or release assets; the random attachment UUID must already be known to the attacker.

Exploitability
| CWE ID | Description |
|---|---|
| CWE-284 | The product does not restrict or incorrectly restricts access to a resource from an unauthorized actor. |
| CWE-863 | The product performs an authorization check when an actor attempts to access a resource or perform an action, but it does not correctly perform the check. |
| CWE-639 | The system's authorization functionality does not prevent one user from gaining access to another user's data or record by modifying the key value identifying the data. |
| CWE-1220 | The product implements access controls via a policy or other feature with the intention to disable or restrict accesses (reads and/or writes) to assets in a system from untrusted agents. However, implemented access controls lack required granularity, which renders the control policy too broad because it allows accesses from unauthorized agents to the security-sensitive assets. |
