Executive Summary

This vulnerability allows a remote attacker to delete arbitrary files on systems running IBM Guardium Data Protection 12.2.2 or 12.1. The issue arises because the software does not properly restrict file paths, enabling attackers to access and delete files outside intended directories.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to delete critical files, disrupting operations or causing data loss. Sensitive information might be exposed if attackers target configuration or log files. Systems relying on Guardium Data Protection could face instability or security breaches.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could allow unauthorized file deletion, potentially compromising data integrity and confidentiality. For GDPR, it may lead to unauthorized access or loss of personal data, violating Articles 5 and 32. For HIPAA, it risks unauthorized deletion of protected health information, violating integrity and availability requirements.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply the latest IBM Guardium Data Protection patches or updates to address the improper pathname restriction. Monitor IBM's security advisories for fixes and restrict remote access to the system until patched.
