Executive Summary

This vulnerability is an input injection flaw in vCast exposed network services in ViewSonic ViewBoard. It allows a remote attacker to send malicious input to unauthenticated service endpoints via HTTP requests without needing authentication.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, monitor network traffic for unauthenticated HTTP requests to TCP port 8121 on ViewSonic ViewBoard devices. Check for suspicious APK downloads or file installations originating from unauthenticated endpoints. Use network scanning tools like nmap to identify open ports and services on vCast devices.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to manipulate the ViewBoard system, potentially causing unauthorized actions, data breaches, or system disruptions. Since it affects network services, the impact could extend to connected devices or networks.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access or data exposure, violating GDPR (data protection) and HIPAA (health data privacy) requirements. Compliance may be compromised if sensitive data is accessed or altered due to the flaw.

Mitigation Strategies

Isolate affected ViewSonic ViewBoard devices from the network to prevent remote exploitation. Disable unauthenticated HTTP endpoints exposed by vCast services if possible. Monitor network traffic for unusual HTTP requests targeting ViewBoard services.
