Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF) flaw in the Hotel Booking WordPress plugin up to version 3.8. It allows attackers to trick a logged-in administrator into performing unauthorized actions like creating, deleting, or modifying booking orders via a forged request.

Detection Guidance

Detecting this vulnerability requires checking if the Hotel Booking WordPress plugin version 3.8 or earlier is installed and if CSRF protection is missing in administrative booking order management. Inspect plugin files for CSRF tokens or nonce checks in booking-related endpoints. Review server logs for suspicious administrative actions like unauthorized record modifications.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could manipulate booking records without the administrator's knowledge, leading to unauthorized changes, deletions, or creation of orders. This could disrupt hotel operations, cause financial discrepancies, or compromise booking integrity.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could potentially impact compliance with GDPR and HIPAA by allowing unauthorized modifications to booking records. Under GDPR, unauthorized data changes may violate integrity principles, while HIPAA requires protection against unauthorized alterations to protected health information. The CSRF flaw enables attackers to manipulate data without consent, which could lead to non-compliance with these regulations.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update the Hotel Booking plugin to the latest version if an update is available. If no update exists, disable the plugin until a patch is released. Restrict administrative access to trusted users only and monitor booking records for unauthorized changes. Consider implementing additional CSRF protections like WordPress nonces or web application firewalls.
