Executive Summary

This is a stored cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in the click5 CRM add-on to Ninja Forms WordPress plugin version 1.0.1 or below. It allows unauthenticated attackers to inject malicious scripts via an unprotected endpoint. The injected scripts are stored and later executed when high-privilege users like administrators access an admin page.

Detection Guidance

Check if the click5 CRM add-on to Ninja Forms plugin version 1.0.1 or below is installed. Look for unauthenticated POST requests to admin-ajax.php that may contain unsanitized input. Monitor admin pages for unexpected script injections.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to execute arbitrary scripts in the context of an admin user's browser session. This could lead to session hijacking, unauthorized actions on the WordPress site, or complete site takeover if the admin has sufficient privileges.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access or control of a WordPress site by exploiting stored XSS against high-privilege users. For GDPR, it may result in unauthorized data processing or breaches if attacker-controlled scripts access user data. For HIPAA, it could expose protected health information if the site handles such data. Compliance risks include violations due to insufficient input sanitization and potential data leaks.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the click5 CRM add-on to Ninja Forms plugin to the latest version. If no update is available, disable or remove the plugin immediately. Implement input sanitization and output escaping for all user-submitted data.
