Executive Summary

This is a stored cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in the click5 CRM add-on to Contact Form 7 WordPress plugin up to version 1.0.4. It allows unauthenticated attackers to submit malicious scripts via an endpoint, which are then stored and executed when high-privilege users like admins view an affected admin page.

Detection Guidance

Check if the click5 CRM add-on to Contact Form 7 plugin version 1.0.4 or below is installed. Look for unauthenticated POST requests to the plugin's endpoint with the post_notifications parameter containing malicious scripts.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to execute arbitrary scripts in the context of an admin user's browser session. This could lead to session hijacking, unauthorized actions on the site, or complete site takeover if the admin has sufficient privileges.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access or data breaches, which may violate GDPR (data protection) and HIPAA (health data privacy) requirements. Organizations must address it to maintain compliance and protect sensitive user data.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the click5 CRM add-on to Contact Form 7 plugin to the latest version immediately to patch the vulnerability. If an update is not available, consider disabling or removing the plugin until a fix is released.
