Executive Summary

This vulnerability involves Progress MarkLogic Server versions 12.x before 12.1.0 and 11.x before 11.3.7 recording sensitive authentication details in diagnostic logs on Azure deployments. Attackers with log access could exploit this to gain unauthorized access to cloud resources.

Detection Guidance

Check MarkLogic diagnostic logs for recorded authentication information. Search logs for patterns like passwords, tokens, or credentials. Use commands such as grep or findstr to scan log files for sensitive data exposure.

Impact Analysis

If you use affected MarkLogic Server versions on Azure, attackers could obtain credentials or tokens from logs, leading to unauthorized access to your cloud resources, data breaches, or service disruption.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could violate GDPR (data protection) and HIPAA (health data security) by exposing sensitive authentication data in logs, potentially leading to unauthorized access and compliance breaches.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade MarkLogic Server to version 12.1.0 or later for 12.x releases, or 11.3.7 or later for 11.x releases. Review and sanitize diagnostic logs to remove any exposed authentication details. Restrict log file access to authorized personnel only.
