Command Injection in Brocade Fabric OS

Vulnerability report for CVE-2026-87662, including description, CVSS score, EPSS score, affected products, exploitability, helpful resources, and attack-flow context.

Publication date: 2026-10-08

Last updated on: 2026-10-08

Assigner: Brocade Communications Systems, LLC

Description

Brocade Fabric versions before 9.2.2d and 10.0.0 through 10.0.0a1 handling of specific download protocols utilizes unsanitized parameter strings. When processing upgrade requests, parameters are converted into system command strings and executed through a system shell interface. Because control characters and shell metacharacters in fields like the host or file path are not stripped or sanitized, an attacker can execute arbitrary shell commands with the firmware management daemon's elevated privileges.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability affects Brocade Fabric OS versions before 9.2.2d and 10.0.0 through 10.0.0a1. It involves improper handling of parameters during firmware upgrade requests, where unsanitized input is converted into system commands and executed via a shell interface. Attackers can exploit this by injecting control or shell metacharacters into fields like host or file path to run arbitrary commands with elevated privileges.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability involves unsanitized parameters in Brocade Fabric OS upgrade requests leading to arbitrary command execution. Detection requires checking for vulnerable Fabric OS versions (before 9.2.2d or 10.0.0 through 10.0.0a1) and inspecting upgrade request logs for suspicious parameters containing shell metacharacters or control characters.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could gain unauthorized access to the system, execute malicious commands, or take control of the firmware management daemon. This could lead to data breaches, system compromise, or disruption of services relying on the Brocade Fabric OS.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access or data breaches, violating confidentiality and integrity requirements in GDPR and HIPAA. Organizations may face compliance violations, legal penalties, and reputational damage if exploited.

Mitigation Strategies

Update Brocade Fabric OS to version 9.2.2d or later, or 10.0.0a2 or later. Disable unnecessary upgrade protocols and restrict access to firmware management interfaces. Monitor network traffic for suspicious upgrade requests.
