Brocade Fabric OS Command Injection in Account Deletion

Vulnerability report for CVE-2026-87677, including description, CVSS score, EPSS score, affected products, exploitability, helpful resources, and attack-flow context.

Publication date: 2026-10-08

Last updated on: 2026-10-08

Assigner: Brocade Communications Systems, LLC

Description

An OS command injection vulnerability exists in the account management subsystem of Brocade Fabric OS versions before 9.2.2d and 10.0.0 through 10.0.0a1. When an administrator initiates an account deletion, the system invokes an internal maintenance routine to clean up cryptographic keys associated with the target account. Malformed account names previously accepted by Fabric OS can cause the execution of embedded shell metacharacters, triggering command injection.

Executive Summary

This is an OS command injection vulnerability in Brocade Fabric OS versions before 9.2.2d and 10.0.0 through 10.0.0a1. It occurs during account deletion when malformed account names trigger shell metacharacters, allowing command injection via the account management subsystem.

Detection Guidance

Detecting this vulnerability requires checking Brocade Fabric OS versions for affected releases (before 9.2.2d or 10.0.0 through 10.0.0a1). Inspect account names for malformed entries that may contain shell metacharacters. No specific commands are provided in the context.

Impact Analysis

An attacker with access to the system could execute unauthorized commands, potentially gaining control over the Fabric OS environment. This could lead to data breaches, system compromise, or disruption of network services.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access or data exposure, violating confidentiality requirements in GDPR and HIPAA. Organizations may face compliance violations, fines, or legal consequences if exploited.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade Brocade Fabric OS to version 9.2.2d or later, or 10.0.0a2 or later. Review and sanitize account names to prevent injection of shell metacharacters. Remove or restrict access for accounts with malformed names until patched.
