Brocade Fabric OS Federated Authentication Input Validation Flaw

Vulnerability report for CVE-2026-87678, including description, CVSS score, EPSS score, affected products, exploitability, helpful resources, and attack-flow context.

Publication date: 2026-10-08

Assigner: Brocade Communications Systems, LLC

Description

An input validation and output encoding vulnerability exists in the web management interface of Brocade Fabric OS versions before 10.0.1. When configuring Federated Authentication (FA), the system fails to sanitize the Identity Provider (IdP) issuer parameter. An authenticated administratorβ€”or an attacker capable of supplying crafted FA configuration files during an import routineβ€”can inject arbitrary web server directives. This can lead to service denial by preventing the web management daemon from starting, or potentially alter web server security controls.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is an input validation and output encoding flaw in Brocade Fabric OS versions before 10.0.1. When configuring Federated Authentication, the system does not properly sanitize the Identity Provider issuer parameter. This allows authenticated administrators or attackers to inject malicious web server directives through crafted configuration files during import, potentially causing service denial or altering security controls.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability can be detected by checking Brocade Fabric OS versions before 10.0.1 for improperly sanitized IdP issuer parameters in Federated Authentication configurations. Review FA configuration files for injected web server directives or unusual syntax. Inspect web management daemon logs for startup failures or errors related to FA configuration parsing.

Impact Analysis

The impact includes denial of service by preventing the web management daemon from starting. It may also allow attackers to modify web server security settings, potentially leading to unauthorized access or further exploitation of the system.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could impact compliance with GDPR and HIPAA by allowing unauthorized changes to web server security controls. An attacker could inject malicious directives to alter authentication or data handling, potentially violating confidentiality or integrity requirements under these regulations.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade Brocade Fabric OS to version 10.0.1 or later to address the input validation and output encoding issues. Temporarily disable Federated Authentication if not required. Audit existing FA configurations for suspicious entries and remove any unauthorized web server directives. Restrict administrative access to FA configuration import routines.
