Executive Summary

The UnitechPay WordPress plugin through version 1.0.6.3 lacks proper verification for payment notifications. This allows unauthenticated attackers to manipulate order statuses without making actual payments or force orders into a failed state by exploiting missing authorization checks.

Detection Guidance

Check if the UnitechPay WordPress plugin version 1.0.6.3 or lower is installed. Review payment logs for unauthorized order status changes or failed orders without valid transactions.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability could lead to financial losses if orders are marked as paid without actual transactions. It may also disrupt business operations by incorrectly marking orders as failed, causing customer dissatisfaction and potential loss of sales.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized transactions or order manipulations, potentially violating data integrity and access control requirements in GDPR and HIPAA. Unauthenticated attackers could falsify payment states, compromising financial records and personal data handling.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the UnitechPay plugin to the latest version if available. Disable the plugin temporarily if no update exists. Monitor order statuses and payment logs for suspicious activity.
