Exploitability

CWE ID Description
CWE-89 The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Without sufficient removal or quoting of SQL syntax in user-controllable inputs, the generated SQL query can cause those inputs to be interpreted as SQL instead of ordinary user data.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability affects RUGGEDCOM CROSSBOW versions before V6.0. It allows authenticated attackers with admin rights to inject and execute arbitrary SQL commands by exploiting improper input validation in custom file label Name and Value fields.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability requires authenticated access with administrative privileges to exploit. Detection should focus on monitoring for unusual SQL queries or database activity from RUGGEDCOM CROSSBOW. Check logs for suspicious input in Name and Value fields during file label customization. Verify if the system is running a vulnerable version (< V6.0).

Impact Analysis

An attacker could manipulate the database to steal, alter, or delete sensitive data, disrupt operations, or gain unauthorized access to system functions. This could lead to data breaches, system outages, or compliance violations depending on the data stored.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized data access or modification, violating GDPR's integrity and confidentiality requirements or HIPAA's safeguards for protected health information. Organizations may face fines or penalties for non-compliance if this flaw is exploited.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade RUGGEDCOM CROSSBOW to version V6.0 or later to address the input validation flaw in Name and Value fields for custom file labels.
