CWE ID Description
CWE-89 The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Without sufficient removal or quoting of SQL syntax in user-controllable inputs, the generated SQL query can cause those inputs to be interpreted as SQL instead of ordinary user data.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability affects RUGGEDCOM CROSSBOW versions before V6.0. It involves improper input validation in device group or facility names during the Bulk Export workflow. An authenticated attacker with specific privileges could exploit this to execute arbitrary SQL commands on the database.

Detection Guidance

Detection requires checking for improper input validation in RUGGEDCOM CROSSBOW versions below V6.0. Review device group or facility name fields during Bulk Export workflows for SQL injection attempts. Monitor database logs for unusual SQL command execution patterns.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could manipulate input to execute malicious SQL commands, potentially leading to unauthorized data access, modification, or deletion. This could compromise the integrity and confidentiality of sensitive information stored in the database.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized data access or breaches, violating GDPR's data protection requirements and HIPAA's security rules. Non-compliance may result in legal penalties, fines, or reputational damage.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade RUGGEDCOM CROSSBOW to version V6.0 or later to address the input validation issue in device group or facility names during Bulk Export workflows.
