Executive Summary

This vulnerability affects RUGGEDCOM CROSSBOW versions before V6.0. It allows authenticated users to bypass access restrictions and retrieve system-wide information they should not have permission to access. This includes sensitive details about devices, substations, users, and scheduled activities.

Detection Guidance

Since this vulnerability involves improper access control in RUGGEDCOM CROSSBOW, detection requires checking for unauthorized database queries or information exposure. Review system logs for unusual queries targeting device configurations, user lists, or substation details. Siemens recommends updating to version V6.0 or later to mitigate this issue.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to gather confidential system information, potentially leading to further attacks on infrastructure. This includes details about all connected devices and user accounts, which could be used for reconnaissance or privilege escalation.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data, violating privacy and security requirements in GDPR and HIPAA. Exposure of user and system details may result in non-compliance with data protection regulations.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade RUGGEDCOM CROSSBOW to version V6.0 or later to address the improper access restrictions in database queries.
