Executive Summary

This is an unauthenticated SQL injection vulnerability in the WP-Partner WordPress plugin version 1.2.1 or earlier. The flaw occurs because the plugin does not properly sanitize and escape the 'id' parameter before using it in SQL queries. Attackers can exploit this to inject malicious SQL code, allowing them to execute additional queries and extract sensitive database information without needing authentication.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, inspect WordPress sites using the WP-Partner plugin version 1.2.1 or earlier. Check for unauthenticated SQL injection attempts targeting the 'id' parameter in SQL queries. Use WPScan to identify vulnerable installations with: wpscan --url <target_url> --enumerate vp,vt

Monitor database logs for unusual queries or errors. Test manually by appending SQL payloads to the 'id' parameter in plugin endpoints and observe responses for database errors or data leaks.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this vulnerability to steal sensitive data from your WordPress database, such as user credentials, personal information, or other confidential data. Since no authentication is required, any unpatched website using the vulnerable plugin version is at risk of compromise.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access and exposure of personal data, violating GDPR and HIPAA requirements. Organizations may face legal penalties, fines, or reputational damage due to data breaches resulting from this flaw.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately disable or uninstall the WP-Partner plugin if installed. If removal is not possible, restrict access to the plugin's endpoints via web server rules or firewall. Monitor for suspicious activity and prepare to update once a patch is released.
