Description

The Coinsnap Bitcoin Crowdfunding WordPress plugin through 1.2.0 does not restrict access to the secret used to authenticate its payment gateway webhook, disclosing it to unauthenticated users and rendering the webhook's signature check ineffective. This allows unauthenticated attackers to forge payment-confirmation notifications and record arbitrary donations as completed, with attacker-chosen amounts, donor names and messages.

Executive Summary

CVE-2026-92427 is a vulnerability in the Coinsnap Bitcoin Crowdfunding WordPress plugin (version 1.2.0 or lower). It exposes the webhook secret used for payment gateway authentication to unauthenticated users. This allows attackers to forge payment-confirmation notifications and manipulate donation records with arbitrary amounts, donor names, and messages.

Detection Guidance

Check if the Coinsnap Bitcoin Crowdfunding WordPress plugin version 1.2.0 or lower is installed. Inspect webhook endpoints for exposed secrets by reviewing plugin files or database entries. Look for unauthenticated access to webhook URLs or disclosure of the secret key in logs or responses.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability allows attackers to create fake donations with attacker-chosen amounts, donor names, and messages. It bypasses payment verification, potentially leading to financial losses or fraudulent records in the crowdfunding system.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could potentially affect compliance with GDPR and HIPAA by exposing sensitive donation data. Unauthorized access to donor names, messages, and donation amounts may violate data protection requirements for handling personal and financial information.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the Coinsnap Bitcoin Crowdfunding plugin to the latest version immediately. Rotate the webhook secret key to invalidate any potential attacker access. Restrict access to webhook endpoints to authenticated users only and monitor for suspicious donation activities.
