Description

Wazuh from 4.0.0 before 4.14.8 contains a race condition in API login throttling that allows unauthenticated attackers to bypass max_login_attempts by sending concurrent requests. Attackers can fire concurrent login bursts to the authenticate and run_as endpoints, each passing the block check before failures are counted, enabling unlimited password guessing.

Executive Summary

CVE-2026-93346 is a race condition in Wazuh's API login throttling that allows unauthenticated attackers to bypass the maximum login attempt restrictions. By sending concurrent requests to the authenticate and run_as endpoints, attackers can execute multiple login attempts before the system counts failures, enabling unlimited password guessing attempts.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, monitor Wazuh API login attempts for unusual concurrent bursts to the authenticate and run_as endpoints. Check logs for multiple rapid-fire login requests that bypass max_login_attempts. Use network traffic analysis tools like tcpdump or Wireshark to capture API requests during login attempts.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability allows attackers to bypass login attempt limits, enabling high-volume password guessing attacks. This could lead to unauthorized access to Wazuh systems if weak or guessable passwords are used. The impact includes potential data breaches, system compromise, and loss of sensitive information.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately upgrade Wazuh to version 4.14.8 or later to patch the race condition. If upgrading is not possible, implement network-level rate limiting or WAF rules to block concurrent login bursts. Temporarily disable API login endpoints if under active attack.
