Description

Wazuh from 4.1.1 before 4.14.8 contains a path traversal vulnerability in the get_list_file helper that allows malicious cluster workers to read arbitrary files via unvalidated filename values. Attackers holding the cluster key can send DistributedAPI requests with traversal filenames to read client.keys, ossec.conf with the cluster key, and other wazuh-readable files.

Executive Summary

CVE-2026-93347 is a path traversal vulnerability in Wazuh versions 4.1.1 through 4.14.7. It exists in the get_list_file helper function within the cluster component. Attackers with access to the cluster key can send specially crafted requests to read arbitrary files on the system by exploiting unvalidated filename values. This allows reading sensitive files like client.keys and ossec.conf.

Detection Guidance

Check Wazuh version with 'wazuh-control -V' or 'rpm -qa | grep wazuh-manager'. If version is between 4.1.1 and 4.14.7, the system is vulnerable. Inspect cluster logs for unusual DistributedAPI requests with traversal filenames like '../client.keys' or '../../ossec.conf'.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability allows attackers to read sensitive files on the system, including authentication keys and configuration files containing the cluster key. This could lead to unauthorized access, data breaches, or further exploitation of the Wazuh environment.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data, potentially violating compliance requirements under GDPR, HIPAA, and other regulations. Exposure of authentication keys and configuration files may result in data breaches and non-compliance penalties.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade Wazuh to version 4.14.8 or later immediately. If immediate upgrade is not possible, restrict cluster key access and monitor for suspicious API requests. Validate all file paths in cluster components to prevent traversal.
