Assigner: IBM Corporation

Description

IBM Langflow OSS 1.0.0 through 1.12.2 could allow an attacker with access to the server secret and Redis write access to submit a malicious serialized cache value. When the value was retrieved, deserialization could have executed attacker-controlled code with the privileges of the service process.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability in IBM Langflow OSS 1.0.0 through 1.12.2 allows an attacker with access to the server secret and Redis write access to inject a malicious serialized cache value. When this value is retrieved, it could trigger code execution with the privileges of the service process during deserialization.

Detection Guidance

Detecting this vulnerability requires checking for unauthorized Redis write access and inspecting serialized cache values. Monitor Redis logs for suspicious write operations and inspect cache entries for unexpected serialized data. No specific commands are provided in the context.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could execute arbitrary code on the affected system, potentially leading to unauthorized access, data theft, or service disruption. This requires the attacker to have access to the server secret and Redis write permissions.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized data access or exfiltration, violating confidentiality requirements in GDPR and HIPAA. Organizations may face compliance violations, fines, or reputational damage if exploited.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately restrict Redis write access to authorized users only. Disable or remove the Redis cache if possible. Update IBM Langflow OSS to a version beyond 1.12.2. Ensure the server secret is not exposed and rotate it if compromised.
