SQL Injection in Znuny Ticket Search

Vulnerability report for CVE-2026-93484, including description, CVSS score, EPSS score, affected products, exploitability, helpful resources, and attack-flow context.

Publication date: 2026-10-15

Last updated on: 2026-10-15

Assigner: MITRE

Description

Znuny through 7.3.6 constructs a ticket-search database query by directly concatenating user-supplied input into the SQL statement. This lack of proper sanitization or the use of parameterized queries allows an attacker to inject arbitrary SQL commands, leading to data theft, modification, or denial of service. Specifically this is in Kernel::System::Ticket::TicketSearch and Kernel::System::Ticket::ArticleSearchIndex::DB via the ContentSearch parameter. The parameter is expected to be either "AND" or "OR", but its value was concatenated directly into the generated SQL query without validation.

Exploitability

CWE ID Description
CWE-89 The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Without sufficient removal or quoting of SQL syntax in user-controllable inputs, the generated SQL query can cause those inputs to be interpreted as SQL instead of ordinary user data.

Executive Summary

This is a SQL injection vulnerability in Znuny versions up to 7.3.6. The ContentSearch parameter in ticket search functions is directly concatenated into SQL queries without validation. Attackers can inject malicious SQL commands to steal, modify, or delete data, or cause service disruption.

Detection Guidance

To detect this SQL injection vulnerability in Znuny, inspect web server logs for unusual SQL query patterns or errors. Look for requests containing the ContentSearch parameter with values other than AND or OR. Check for signs of SQL syntax errors in logs or database query logs.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to access sensitive data like user credentials or ticket information, alter or delete records, or disrupt system operations. The impact depends on the attacker's goals and the database permissions.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized data access or modification, violating GDPR's data protection requirements or HIPAA's security rules for protected health information. Non-compliance may result in legal penalties or reputational damage.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update Znuny to version 7.3.7 or Znuny LTS 6.5.25 or later. If immediate update is not possible, restrict access to the ticket search functionality via network controls or disable the ContentSearch parameter until patched. Monitor for suspicious database activity.
