Heap Memory Corruption in Qt for MCUs via String Handling

Description
Description
A defect in the Qt for MCUs core string handling causes heap memory corruption. When an application passes text into Qt Quick Ultralite using the public Qul::String interface type, and that text is held in a std::string, the conversion to the internal string type copies the pointer without taking ownership of it. Two objects then release the same memory, producing a double free, an invalid free, or a use-after-free.

Helpful Resources
Exploitability
| CWE ID | Description |
|---|---|
| CWE-665 | The product does not initialize or incorrectly initializes a resource, which might leave the resource in an unexpected state when it is accessed or used. |
| CWE-416 | The product reuses or references memory after it has been freed. At some point afterward, the memory may be allocated again and saved in another pointer, while the original pointer references a location somewhere within the new allocation. Any operations using the original pointer are no longer valid because the memory "belongs" to the code that operates on the new pointer. |
| CWE-415 | The product calls free() twice on the same memory address. |
| CWE-590 | The product calls free() on a pointer to memory that was not allocated using associated heap allocation functions such as malloc(), calloc(), or realloc(). |
